Fashion Knowledge of Optical Research – Professional Camera v.s. iPhone Pro.

Evaluate performance of mechatronics and optical engineering:
Professional Camera v.s. iPhone Pro.

Research
Compare the two devices’ aberration control, lens construction, aperture, and image sensor format.

Objective
Analyze the impact of optical engineering on the quality of photographic imagery.

Findings
Although the iPhone Pro is built with computationally rendered bokeh, the system doesn’t execute finely in terms of auto exposure (AE) bias under highlights. Additionally, bugs exist in auto white balance (AWB), which cannot precisely fix over-saturation issues in the warm white lighting.

Annotation
White balance settings include options for daylight, shade, cloudy, incandescent, and fluorescent.

Question
The WB feature has already been included in digital cameras (DSC/DSLR, & ILCE) for decades. This tech only requires parameter adjustment since the AE and AWB problems didn’t exist on other Apple models I used before. It shouldn’t be techniques that cannot overcome optical design and lens coating materials. Besides, the software pipeline should be able to deal with the basic optimal performance, especially since iOS users can apply their default presets and capture photos simultaneously. As shooting on the iPhone in native portrait mode, the artificial bokeh background is actually computational operations.

Recommendation
Apple can further develop features that allow users to efficiently apply the pre-train parameters and data collection based on their usual environments.

What if…
Training the linear regression module with machine learning algorithm by feeding parameter database to optimize optical performance in various scenarios.
